some things are harder to face than others
- Court: Seelie: Summer
- Room: 205
- Roommate: Damen of Akelios
- North is a soldier from a war-torn galaxy that has been fighting aliens bent on humanity's destruction for over 25 years. North has known nothing else in his life but the conditions of war.
- North has a twin sister, who was assigned the matching codename to his—so for a long time into the project, North Dakota fought with South Dakota by his side.
- The headcanon name I have given North is Andrew Engelsen. Unless and until I get a South in game, his sister may be referred to as Alexis.
- North has zero problems sharing his real name with potential friends, and will give people the option of calling him either by the moniker North or by his real name. He doesn't like nicknames, though; he is Andrew, not Andy or Drew.
- Though North comes from a comedy canon, it can be kind of dark in places. Themes that are present in North's canon include genocide, war, ethics, sacrifice, and torture.
- The method and results of Alpha's torture are always with North, as he received the childlike Theta fragment as a partner. Theta is likely to speak up in any thread, and may express curiosity or fear about whatever is going on.
Physical:
- North is tall, and it's obvious that until he became a soldier he was rather gangly. Thankfully, he has become well-muscled, and he maintains his physique despite the two years he recently spent on the run from the Project.
- Vital statistics:
◦ Height: 6'7" (200 cm)
◦ Weight: 249 lb (113 kg)
◦ Hair: Blond
◦ Eyes: Ice blue
◦ Gender: Male
◦ Race: European - North speaks in a fairly neutral standard Midwestern American accent. The beginning of this video contains a good sample of his speaking voice. North is the one in purple armor.
- North has several remnants of a wilder childhood, such as the lip ring scar on his lower left lip.
- North is a trained sniper, and can use a sniper rifle almost as adeptly without a scope as he can with it. Adjacent to this, he's got unmatched patience, being willing to sit and wait for his quarry for hours without moving and without complaining.
- North is a physical powerhouse, though he's not as adept at hand-to-hand fighting as some of his teammates. There's a reason he consistently ranked around sixth on the leaderboard, after all. However, if you're interested in your character sparring with or fighting against North, please discuss the outcome with me.
- North is also skilled at vehicle repair and equipment maintenance.

Character Name: Agent North Dakota | unknown (I use the name Andrew Engelsen for him)
Age: Late 20s
Canon: Red vs Blue
Canon Point: As he is being attacked for his AI by the Meta
Character History: Here
Canon Abilities: What is your character capable of doing in canon?
North is good at calming people down, helping them compromise, helping them feel better, and suggesting things that will help them feel comforted. Given his skills in dealing with Theta it would seem he would be excellent with children, should he find himself around any.
North is incredibly patient, a skill that helps him both in his role as a sniper and his attempts to help others.

🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
North has never really believed in magic, having been raised in an era of logic and reason and science. The AI the Project created to pair him with is evidence enough for him that the things that seem impossible all have scientific explanations; even the enemies humankind has been fighting since before he was born were aliens from other worlds. I headcanon that by the time Halo and RvB take place (in the 2500s, 500 years from now), farie tales are told with a large dose of skepticism, a sense that this is mere fantasy, even around small children. After all, farie tales are stories that only distract from the day-to-day reality that humanity is at war, and a devastating war at that. And ever since he's had Theta to act fatherly toward, or at least brotherly toward, this tendency has only been solidified. If someone tried to tell him magic is real, he'd likely quietly disagree, but not make a big fuss about it. After all, it takes time and patience to change someone's mind about a fundamental belief like that.
- If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
Everything in North's life has gone astray because of the actions of Leonard Church choosing to torture the ALpha AI and split it into multiple component AIs. Although he has a great deal of affection for Theta and appreciates the AI for its personality and talents, if he could have one wish granted he'd likely say he wishes the actions Church took in administering the Project and its AIs had never taken place. In the case of something like this, however, it would take wishing that Church had never gone through the experiences that he had gone through that inspired him to create the Project in the first place—the death of his wife, and even the war itself, are causes North can't see any way to be able to prevent. So it would take changing the way Church viewed his own role in the war and his ethical lapses in working with soldiers and AIs in the unethical ways he was willing to do.
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
North would follow his sister, South, no question. In my headcanon, North's family was poor and he and his sister shared a bedroom with a rickety bunk bed in it in a 3rd floor apartment. Despite their poverty, and their parents trying their best to raise their twins, the two ended up spending much of their time after school hours alone. North's more mature and responsible nature clashed with South's impulsivity, so he often intervened when South would do things like scrap with older teens on the basketball court and the like. However, he was also very defensive of her, so he was just as likely to enter the fray if someone was being particularly cruel to her. He became used to being her defender and intervening in situations she had gotten into, despite her protestations that he wasn't required to do such things. He sees himself as being needed in her life because of her brash decisions, and if the faeries carried her off for whatever reason he'd want to be the one to help her in the situation she had found herself in.
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
North's is definitely his nurturing nature. This was so noticeable that when Theta split off of Alpha, and was obviously a child fragment of its personality, North was chosen to host him. He's often seen trying to mentor others and talk to them about their issues, though the fact that he seems to see himself as some kind of father figure makes him come across as condescending as a consequence. He's unfortunately a bit passive-aggressive in the way he communicates when he thinks someone should be acting differently from the way that they are, which shows especially in the fight scene where he and South are working in sync to escape a situation where she set the alarm off—he keeps trying to tell her, a capable fighter, what choices she should be making in the fight. On the converse side, he tends to believe the best out of people, including the Project leadership, and it takes him a lot of time and convincing to realize the agents of the Project are not the good guys.

Brackets/Prose: Prose preferred, but will match.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers to Avoid: Noncon/rape. Otherwise, I don't really have any triggers, though I am uncomfortable with elaborate descriptions of gore and such. Putting a cw in the subject line for anything upsetting should cover me.
🦋 In Character
Physical Affection: North will take this as a cue that a greeting hug upon every encounter is welcomed, so be sure you want to set the precedent.
Physical Violence: North is skilled in hand-to-hand and shooting, so your character may find him a formidable opponent. Check with me before initiating anything.
Relationships: North is demisexual panromantic, so with proper build-up and initiation of a friendship, this is possible.
NPC Interaction: cool
Psychic & Psionic Information: North has an implanted helper AI in a chip implanted in his brain, so use of psionic powers on him will feel familiar in that sense. However, he has no way of fending them off or anything.
Magical Information: N/a
Medical Information: North has a chip implanted at the base of his skull that bridges between the AI and his mind. Touch there may be somewhat sensitive. A blow there would be devastating.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character: Though North comes from a comedy canon, it can be kind of dark in places. Themes that are present in North's canon include genocide, war, ethics, sacrifice, and torture. North himself is a caring dude, but he will smother you if you let him. He can be codependent, also.

Backtagging: I prefer to play out what I can of a thread in a fairly timely manner. If it's looking like what is happening between our characters is going to have a major impact on their CR longterm, I'll keep backtagging for some months, but for the most part if it's beyond the current plot and it's not going much of anywhere I'm liable to lose interest.
Threadhopping: I'm all for this in network posts as long as things are open (i.e. there's no indication the transmission is private). For logs, I'd like to be advised you're going to do this, but will most likely be open to it.
Facetwins: I use Jude Law as a PB when North's paid is active. Please touch base with me before initiating.

Pixie Led Character History
Red vs. Blue is a Halo fanfiction machinima—its creators would probably dispute my use of the word ‘fanfiction’ there but fundamentally, that’s what it is. As such, it uses many elements from Halo canon, although it deviates at many places as well. Its seasons are set out of order; the first five seasons deal with the simulation soldiers in the canyon known as Blood Gulch, but later on the viewer learns that these soldiers are there for training purposes for the agents of Project Freelancer. This program was created to test the use of AI in partnering with its agents, but as they were only allowed one AI for their experiments, they took drastic means and tortured the AI into splitting into pieces. Eventually the whole program fell apart, and North was one of the casualties of
this.
This background is in chronological order, although the events shown in the actual program are not.
An AI scientist named Leonard Church loses his wife in the midst of securing his education in the field. He then raises his daughter alone, but manages to get his PhD in artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the UNSC Earth Government has been seeking a “magic bullet” solution to ending the war with the aliens, which has been raging for over 20 years. Because of this, Dr. Church gains funding for Project Freelancer, and begins to be known as the Director. Although he is intending to partner all the agents with AIs, he’s only granted funding for one. He decides to use his own mind as a basis for the AI, naming it Alpha. During its creation, however, the memory of his wife splits off as its own entity. This causes him to realize he can torture the AI and cause other fragments to split off. His employee, known as the Counselor, begins to help with this.
Simulation bases are built, allowing the agents to train while interacting with real, if incompetent, simulation soldiers. In the process of setting up the Project, the Director hires his own daughter to be an agent in the program. She is designated Agent Carolina. He assigns the memory of his wife that had split off of Alpha as an agent as well, putting her in a robot body and designating her Agent Texas.
Agent Texas is active during several missions, during which the Project kidnaps a Huragok alien, which can repair any type of technology. The Director uses this alien to further his research in splitting AIs via torture. North is assigned the childlike AI fragment, Theta, and the two are seen to be a competent pairing when it comes to soldiering.
Eventually Agent Connecticut defects, having delved into the Project's files and realizing what is going on. She leaves the evidence behind for Agent Texas to find. Texas finds the evidence and also defects, leading a break-in to attempt to rescue Alpha and Agent Carolina. North is part of the team that defects with her, and he acts as the inside man during the break-in. The mission fails, and the spaceship that is functionally working as the Project’s headquarters crashes into the planet where the simulation bases are headquartered.
Agent North and his sister South leave, running away in order to rescue his own AI, Theta, from the entity known as the Meta. The Meta is the team of Sigma and his host, Maine, who begin gathering the other AIs so that they may be reassembled and become a full human. Eventually, the Meta attacks North in pursuit of Theta, a position that South had placed him in.

Canonblind Character Guide
Voice
North is personable and warm, and speaks in a medium baritone voice. He's most often found thinking things through before speaking, unlike his companion in this scene.
Attitude
North is protective and nurturing toward his friends, wanting everyone to experience the best in life that they can. He's also, unfortunately, condescending and overbearing when people go a different way than what he wishes they would, and can become passive-aggressive about their decision-making.
Dialogue
The following are some samples of dialogue that put North's attitude and general demeanor fully on display.
Theta: I don't know. There's so many of them. And they're so...big.
North: It's okay, Theta. They're all friends of mine. For reasons beyond my comprehension.
Theta: Are they all going to watch?
North: Of course! They want to see if you're as good as i said you are.
Theta: Really? Well, I guess that's okay.
North:That's the spirit! Come on, let's do this!
Theta: Stop talking to me! You'll mess me up!
North: Right. Sorry.
North: I can't get a line of sight on the target from here. But I might have a way to contain them.
Carolina: Just do it!
North: Theta!
Theta: Ready!
North: Putting up a hail-mary! I need you to guide me!
Theta: Okay!
Theta vanishes. North Dakota backs up from the Warthog, where South is still firing. He holster his sniper rifle and pulls out a device. He prepares to throw it.
North: They say the best offense, is a good...
North tosses the device over a building.
North: ...defense!
Things Other Characters Said
The following are things other characters said about North that show the way people see him.
York: Yeah. He is used to looking out for people, isn't he?
Counselor: Quite.
Likes
Helping people, being a shoulder to lean on, being tall, being a soldier, being a sniper, defeating enemies, his sister, Theta, taking action without proof.
Dislikes
Corny jokes, people who don't take responsibility for their actions, being up-front with his thoughts.
Primary Motivation
North is motivated by the ability and desire to help others. This means he defends those in his circle; if someone outside of his circle tries to intrude, especially to injure them in some way, his claws will come out.

Name: Agent North Dakota Door: Submissive Canon: Red vs. Blue Canon Point: As he is being attacked for his AI by the Meta. North is also a CRAU from Sanctums. Age: Unknown | [estimated at around 31] Appearance: North is 6’7” (200.6cm), pale, and blond, with blue eyes. He’s muscular from his line of work, though that’s a bit diminished from his time on the run. He has a few scars from being shot, and from his wild teen years when he had a lip ring. The Meta is the team of Sigma and his host, Maine, who begin gathering the other AIs so that they may be reassembled and become a full human. Eventually, the Meta attacks North in pursuit of Theta, a position that South had placed him in. CRAU details: During the time he is fighting the Meta, he is suddenly transported to the planet Zeus, which is the site of the city of Proles. The city is encased in a dome in order to protect the population from a contagion outside known as dysthrophy. The corporation in charge of the city, Bifrons, was in total control of the city; NPCs in charge of Bifrons included a compliance officer (the Coho) who would hypnotize or torture characters into cooperating with their efforts. Characters would first awaken in game with a row of ports having been implanted down their spine. North arrived in Proles to find several people he knew being under the dome, including York, a humanized Delta, and Carolina. His sister, South, arrived not long after. On New Year’s Eve, a computer virus infected the software that is being pushed from Bifrons to each residents’ ports. Known as the Thanos virus, it made the residents irritable and easily angered. South disappeared during the time the virus was still at work, and an anonymous source sent North a video; she had been taken to Bifrons headquarters and never emerged through its doors again. Due to the virus, a friend of North’s gathered some friends to help him attack the tower that contained the mayor’s office. North decided to help because he thought he might discover what happened to his sister there. Bifrons sent Wrath, the lieutenant of Wrath platoon of the Ghost Wolves, to fight them off. Wrath ran North over with her hoverbike and defeated the team. However, Carolina knocked Wrath off the top floor of the building and caused her tremendous injuries. After this, Wrath’s commander, Hob Ravani, who is also Callsign Victor, contacted him over the public network to discuss him joining the militia. The Coho picked North up before he got a chance to visit Ravani, however, and convinced him not to help her. Ravani had to convince him once again, but in the end, he did decide to join the militia. Ravani told him to visit Wrath in the hospital. He wasn’t really very interested, since she had been the one to run him over with a hoverbike, but he did so. He found her to be different from what he expected, and the two hit it off. Another default in the port software caused people to be able to see alternate universes in reflective surfaces, and North and York saw one in which they had been in love. York and North end up in bed because of the memories that they were confronted with. Despite this, York encouraged North’s budding relationship with Wrath. North received his challenge coin at the end of his training for the militia and became Pride lieutenant of the Ghost Wolves. He then continued to visit Wrath in the hospital daily, one time intercepting compliance officers who were attempting to drag her from her bed. A new default in the port software caused a shared dreamscape. Unaware at first that it was all a dream, North and Wrath solidified their relationship. Later on they agree they meant it, however. Later, Wrath was released from the hospital and North helped her pick out a new house. Ravani’s plans in having the Immune join the militia came to fruition and the Callsign program was eliminated, causing the militia to become the Proles Free Army. Upset at the change, the population of the Dome rioted. After the transition was complete, North’s monogamy conflicted with Wrath’s polyamorous outlook, and the two broke up. Not long before North disappeared from the Dome, North and Maine worked out army rotations to guard the new dock that would allow people to leave the Dome. Personality: - condescending - North knows better than you and is willing to show that he thinks so in the way he talks to others and the way he behaves. At one point he’s seen dictating to South what she should do during a mission despite the fact that his prattling on in her earpiece could distract her. He also doesn’t take her into his confidence after deciding to act as the inside man during Tex and York’s defection. He ends up being forced to injure her during the fight for the ship instead. - over-cautious - North tends to be overly concerned with the consequences of defying the status quo. He is wilfully blind to the deficiencies of the leadership of Project Freelancer, only admitting to himself that they cannot be “the good guys” after York brings up some of the issues with the way the last battle had gone. He’s slow to act even after this, and only ends up joining forces with Tex and York after the conclusive evidence that the leadership is in the wrong has been presented to him. - passive-aggressive - North doesn’t tend to confront someone head-on when they’re doing something he doesn’t agree with; he comes at it sideways, or with passive-aggressive remarks. At one point after his sister begins to rant in AI class, North is seen giving a rueful little headshake, grunting in irritation. On another occasion, when York’s jokes are getting to him, he asks York “how many times we’re going to have to hear this story” in a low tone. Powers and Abilities:North has been recruited into an elite force of mercenary soldiers. As such he is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, self-defense tactics, shooting, and survival. His specialty is the sniper rifle; he’s nearly as accurate shooting without a scope as he is with it. In the confrontation with his sister, he’s seen dual-wielding sniper rifles, one in each hand. Inventory: A purple suit of Freelancer armor with green accents, his sniper rifle, and a pistol. His AI, Theta, will be missing. Samples: Sample from Piper90 Sample from TDM |
North is demisexual panromantic. This means he rarely experiences sexual attraction on the basis of appearance, unless he has formed a close bond with the person. However, he's perfectly capable of having sex with a person of his choosing.
Some things North enjoys on his own:

Duplicity Application
Name: Agent North Dakota Door: Submissive Canon: Red vs. Blue Canon Point: As he is being attacked for his AI by the Meta. North is also a CRAU from Sanctums. Age: Unknown | [estimated at around 31] Appearance: North is 6’7” (200.6cm), pale, and blond, with blue eyes. He’s muscular from his line of work, though that’s a bit diminished from his time on the run. He has a few scars from being shot, and from his wild teen years when he had a lip ring. History: This background is in chronological order, although the events shown in the actual program are not. North Sanctums CRAU Explanandum

North as he appeared when he was in the Ghost Wolves
Art by
North was in Sanctums for 3 months of in-game time (about 8 months OOC time). Sanctums was a panfandom dystopian horror game with elements of body horror and mental control. The setting was a city called Proles on the planet Zeus, which was encased in a dome in order to protect the population from a contagion outside known as dysthrophy. The corporation in charge of the city was called Bifrons. Bifrons was something like Jorgmund, only possibly worse; NPCs in charge of Bifrons included a compliance officer (the Coho) who would hypnotize or torture characters into cooperating with their efforts. Characters would first awaken in game with a row of ports having been implanted down their spine.
As per Korel’s permission, I’m AUing the game history to include the Freelancer characters having their own AIs, instead of the AIs being humanized.
- North arrived in Proles to find several people he knew being under the dome, including York, with Delta, and Carolina. His sister, South, arrived not long after.

- North is demisexual biromantic, which means he's open to developing a close bond with another character and cultivating a sexual relationship from there. However, he's also a fan of casual encounters, as to him his lack of attraction doesn't really matter.
- For memes and PSLs, I am wide open to shipping options for North, including male and female partners.
- Kinks listed as a yes are easy to set up with North. Though I tried to be fairly comprehensive, there are liable to be options I missed. Please don't be afraid to ask if it seems like something I might be open to.
- Kinks listed as a maybe are potentially possible with sufficient set-up and build-up.
- Kinks listed as a no won't be possible with North.
- Kinks that are listed with a ⭐ are character favorites.

OWNPERSON
My sister, who I've spent my entire life with, including during the time we were enlisted and the years we spent as agents of Project Freelancer. Coming here without her was strange, but soon after she arrived, just in time to make trouble. We soon learned that the Project had been running an experiment on us, trying to ruin our relationship, and learning that helped us to reconcile.
PARANNOYED
The first person I ran into when I arrived. I hadn't seen Wash since leaving the downed Mother of Invention back home, and he admitted to killing my sister there not long afterwards. I told him I forgave him, because I felt like I should, but he really needs to stop sniping at her.
INFAILTRATION
Agent York and I were the best of friends back in the Project, or at least we were as close as two people could manage to be while working there. We have fallen back into our old ways, and I'm learning to lean on him more than I expected to.
AIDEPRICELESS
The asshole who's responsible for so much of the suffering we endured during the Project. I recently learned he was running an "experiment" to see how badly he could fuck up my relationship with South.
ONEQUARTERSHARK
Our team leader back in the Project. I would have liked to have known her better, back then, though South and I also kind of disliked her style of leadership.
FUCKINGAQUA
A friend of Wash's who is also a former sim trooper. I don't know him very well, though Theta certainly took a shine to him when they had the opportunity to share a headspace.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so Armstrong's story about what happened to him back home didn't alarm me. I am watching out for anything strange coming from him, though. I'd like to get to know him better before passing any judgement.
Went on a mission with him to deliver toys with Santa. He seems good-natured and helpful. I'd like to get to know him a little better.
This guy is not the brightest that I've ever met. He worries me on a certain level, so I try my best to be a good influence.
I'm not sure it's working.
All-around good egg. She really gets it—'it' being my relationship with Theta—which I suppose makes sense since she's artificial herself. She made him a puzzle server, which has been great for my ability to get the amount of sleep I need.
Helped me fight a fridge once. He also helped me get the low-down on some of the nonsense that was going on when I first arrived, and helped me settle in. He's pretty sharp.
I know this will come across as a pun but she's a real sourpuss. I understand that she wasn't feeling well when I introduced myself to her but that didn't mean she needed to be so grating.
An android from another universe (as far we can tell). He's a good friend of Theta now.
Another good guy, who seems to be from a much different time from where me and Theta come from.
Piper 90 Info Booth
Canon:
○ Height: 6'7" (200 cm)
○ Weight: 249 lb (113 kg)
○ Hair: Blonde
○ Eyes: Ice blue
○ Gender: Male
○ Race: European - North speaks in a fairly neutral standard Midwestern American accent.

SETTING BACKGROUND
Eventually the whole program fell apart, and North was one of the casualties of this.
HISTORY
This background will be in chronological order, although the events shown in the actual program are not.
- An AI scientist named Leonard Church loses his wife in the midst of securing his education in the field.
- He raises his daughter all alone, but manages to get his PhD in artificial intelligence.
- The leadership of the UNSC Earth Government continues to seek a “magic bullet” solution to ending the war with the aliens, which has been raging for over 20 years.
- Dr. Church gains funding for Project Freelancer, and begins to be known as the Director. Although he is intending to partner all the agents with AIs, he’s only granted funding for one. - Eventually Agent Connecticut defects, having delved into the Project's files and realizing what is going on. She leaves the evidence behind for Agent Texas to find.
- Texas finds the evidence and also defects, leading a break-in to attempt to rescue Alpha and Agent Carolina. North is part of the team that defects with her, and he acts as the inside man during the break-in. The mission fails, and the spaceship that is functionally working as the Project’s headquarters crashes into the planet where the simulation bases are headquartered.
- Agent North and his sister South leave, running away in order to rescue his own AI, Theta, from the entity known as the Meta. The Meta is the team of Sigma and his host, Maine, who begin gathering the other AIs so that they may be reassembled and become a full human.
PERSONALITY
North is a trained mercenary soldier, willing and able to confront dangerous situations and improvise solutions. He’s a realist and knows the importance of following rules and regulations. He seems to put priority on following orders as close to the letter as he can, though he will deviate when circumstances call for him to deviate. He’ll still worry about the consequences, though. He couches his concerns with an easy humor, but he can’t help but ask around when he gets called in to answer for one such deviation to find out what his potential consequences could be.
He’s known for being supportive, and at one point the project’s counselor even refers to his ‘nurturing nature.’ Perhaps nothing in life has given him cause to learn how to calm and mentor others than his relationship with his twin sister, South. She is rash and impulsive, often mouthing off when something upsets or irritates her. While he seems unwilling to call her out on her outbursts in front of other people, he usually goes to find her in the aftermath to calm her and talk her through what’s upsetting her. This isn’t to say that he likes putting up with her behavior, however. When she can’t see his face he reacts with a restrained exasperation, shaking his head in the knowledge that soon he’s going to need to intervene in her anger once again.
By nature, he’s contemplative, and though he may gently tease his friends, he’s not as much of a joker as fellow agent York. His more introspective nature leads to an easy camaraderie between the two of them, and York’s seen going to North more than once to help him think something through. He’s even something of a mentor to the younger Washington, easing things over when York’s antagonizing of Washington goes a little bit too far. When sharing his opinion he often pauses before speaking, as though to make sure he has his thoughts straight before presenting them.
He has a strong sense of morality, but he also places his trust in the leadership. Therefore, he’s more reluctant to conclude that they aren’t “the good guys” than York, even when York shares his suspicions. Though he had been forming a friendship with Tex, it’s likely that his trust in York, along with the evidence Tex has in her possession, is what persuades him to go along with the plan to break in and rescue the Alpha AI. In the end, in the choice between right and wrong, he casts his lot in with them rather than continue to help the leadership carry out unethical research.
The contrast between his personality and his sister’s comes to a head as things in the project start to break down. He chooses to act as the inside man, knowing that he won’t be able to convince South to go in on the plan. He relies on his persuasive skills and their history of standing together to convince her to leave with him once the break-in has already taken place. Unfortunately his trust in his ability to influence his sister ends up being his downfall; Tex warns him that his sister is an opportunist, and though he admits to Tex that South has acted inappropriately in her quest for an AI of her own, it seems he was taken by surprise by the fact that in the end, he couldn’t trust her to do everything she could to keep him from falling to the Meta.
Of special note is North’s relationship to his AI, Theta. AIs can choose how to project themselves and how they sound, and Theta is childlike in both voice and his hologram body's proportions. Theta is timid and fearful when he is first introduced. North was chosen specifically to host Theta because of Theta’s anxiousness. Unlike other agents, North is reluctant to shut his AI down to spare himself the difficulty when Theta’s worries and fears become overwhelming. Instead, North stays up late into the night to walk the halls and comfort the AI, comparing it to the way his father would take South for car rides to lull her to sleep. He shows himself successful at the task from the start, coaxing the AI to bring his avatar out from hiding and to speak more directly to his fellow agents. Over time Theta begins to seek North’s approval, creating animations such as of fireworks or himself riding a skateboard, simply to hear North compliment him on them. North teaches Theta that they can trust one another; once Theta learns he can rely on North, he seeks North’s reassurances whenever a new situation presents itself.

ABILITIES
North has been recruited into an elite force of mercenary soldiers.

North is going to think, first and foremost, about how he can help other people who may be struggling to integrate into the setting. He will possibly be looking for ways to get back where he came from but that won’t really be a priority. He’ll just want to help everyone else who hates it there.
➤ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?
I’d love for him to bond with some people, anyone really, but especially younger characters who might remind him of Theta, or even characters who remind him of his sister.
➤ Does your character currently have skills that would allow them to adapt, survive, and do the heroic things being asked of them? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?
He definitely has this type of skillset.
➤ If they're not used to cooperating with others, what makes you think they'll be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?
n/a
➤ Will your character have long-term plans to rebel against Jorgmund? If so, how? Will they betray the other PCs and cooperate with Jorgmund? If so, how do you plan to handle the negative CR that might arise?
North will be wary of Jorgmund, having dealt with the way things were in Project Freelancer not so long before his death. However, North isn’t much of a leader, at least not when it comes to this type of thing. He won’t instigate anything, but he’ll keep an eye out for anyone else who’s developing this type of plan.

- Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?
[ North nods, just once. He knows the answer that fits the bill in this case, particularly if it’s a skill they actually need on the station. ]
I’m a hunter, definitely. I know not everyone has the skills and capacity that I have to get food by killing it, so I’d want to make sure to do the best job about hunting the food that I could. Why, you...need someone to do it?
[ At this point the polygraph machine seems to emit a response that leads the Jorgmund rep to decide North is lying, and he’s asked the question again with some strenuous admonishments about being truthful. North tilts his head in confusion. ]
Why would I...lie about that? I’m a hunter. I kill people, I’m sure I could kill an animal. I mean, I think. If it was for food. Though…I suppose picking berries sounds pretty nice.
- What is your least favorite thing about humanity?
[ North frowns to himself, considering everything that had gone on at Project Freelancer for just a moment. He doesn’t like to think about those times; he ruminates on it too often. ]
I think it’d have to be the willingness to hurt other people in order to get ahead. Or for any reason, really, but people being greedy like that really gets to me. I don’t understand it. Just...be nice to people. Consider their feelings as being as important as your own, you know?
- What's your biggest personal flaw?
[ North shifts in his seat, then snickers lightly. ]
Okay, this sounds like one of those answers that flips a positive trait around into a negative, I know, but I just care too much, you know? I don’t seem to have the capacity to let things go when I think I can help someone. And maybe they reject it, coming from me, but I keep trying anyway. I don’t know why. It’s like a compulsion.

ADDITIONAL INFO
Just to make it clear, I am intending North to arrive with his AI, Theta, intact. The AIs are implanted in the agents’ bodies via a chip implanted in the base of the skull, so it should be no issue at all for him to retain him. I also hope for him to retain his power armor with the domed energy shield modification, but I understand this equipment will not be allowed except in certain missions.
FINAL QUESTIONS
The players won't know what the mods are doing with these questions until sometime later.
➤ Will your character suspect some kind of guiding intelligence has brought them to the game? Or will they think it was random or done by Jorgmund?
He’ll think it was Jorgmund.
REVISIONS
➤ Personal History
North, whose given name is Andrew Engelsen, grew up on an Inner Colony planet among many people who, like him, were descended from various Scandinavian peoples. North's family was poor and he and his sister shared a bedroom with a rickety bunk bed in it in a 3rd floor apartment.
The twins enlisted the instant they were old enough to, and left just after high school graduation. South was angry about North's enlistment at first, because he did it to follow suit after her rash decision to do so, but the two ended up being assigned to the same company and she grew to be happy he was there with her.
My headcanon for the reason most Freelancer agents were recruited was that they were skilled soldiers who got into some kind of scrape and were slated to be court-martialed. North and South ended up getting into some kind of situation where they were either able to sacrifice their own lives for the rest of their unit, or choose to save each other, and they made the latter choice.
➤ Theta
Theta is good at doing calculations that would assist North in aiming thrown munitions, firing weapons accurately, or predict the angle of falling obstacles. Controlling North's bubble shield also involves proper calculations as to what size it should be and the exact moment it should be deployed or turned off. He also contains various functions that involve creativity, such as the fireworks show he created to entertain North.
➤ Powers
North's bubble shield was limited by the mods to lasting 10 seconds, or merely 5 if under heavy fire. It will also need a recharge time of half an hour. Mods will approve or deny which missions he will have his armor and bubble shield.
[OOC]
- Backtagging: I prefer to play out what I can of a thread in a fairly timely manner. If it's looking like what is happening between our characters is going to have a major impact on their CR longterm, I'll keep backtagging for some months, but for the most part if it's beyond the current plot and it's not going much of anywhere I'm liable to lose interest.
- Threadhopping:I'm all for this in network posts as long as things are open (i.e. there's no indication the transmission is private). For logs, I'd like to be advised you're going to do this, but will most likely be open to it.
- Fourthwalling:No, thank you.
- Off limits: Noncon/rape.
- Warn first: I don't really have any triggers, though I am uncomfortable with elaborate descriptions of gore and such. Putting a cw in the subject line for anything upsetting should cover me.
[IC]
- Physical affection: North will take this as a cue that a greeting hug upon every encounter is welcomed, so be sure you want to set the precedent.
- Physical violence: North is skilled in hand-to-hand and shooting, so your character may find him a formidable opponent. Check with me before initiating anything.
- Romance: North is demisexual biromantic, so with proper build-up and initiation of a friendship, this is possible.
- Use of telepathy/mind reading: Yes. North is a bit of an open book at the best of times and has no reason to know how to defend himself from such abilities.
- CRAU recognition: under certain circumstances. Please contact me before proceeding.
- Facetwins: No.
Opt-Out/Plotting
Comments to this entry are screened. Feel free to use the following form to opt out of interactions with him or aspects of his character, or use it for plotting.
- Ghost Net: This net, when thrown, will pass through any physical beings while wrapping around and dragging down any ghost or spirit it’s hurled at. The being can then be dragged and released as the owner wishes, but they may not be too happy at their treatment.
- Obsidian Credit Card: This credit card, crafted from pure obsidian with diamond lettering inlaid, has twenty uses. It will allow the user to pay for something, no matter the price, per use.
